This year the 21st International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility takes place from October 28th to 30th in Pittsburgh, USA.
The ASSETS conference is the premier forum for presenting research on the design, evaluation, use, and education related to computing for people with disabilities and older adults. We invite high-quality original submissions on topics relevant to computing and accessibility.
Joey van der Bie, researcher at the Digital Life Center, presents the Sidewalk navigation syntax at ACM ASSETS. Via this syntax, it is possible to provide comprehensive and concise navigation instructions in a consistent manner. Details about the environment, but also warnings about a pole in the road surface, are treated in this Sidewalk syntax. The syntax is part of the EyeBeacons Wayfinding system, whereby multi-modal messages enable people with a visual impairment to navigate through the public space.
