'A Guiding Environment At Home' - what does that mean?

28-10-2019

From 14 to 17 October, 2019 a special test set-up of 'Guiding Environment' was set up at DrieGasthuizenGroep in Arnhem - specifically for elderly people with early dementia. This arrangement offered the opportunity to collect experiences and first impressions from both the elderly and their healthcare professionals.

The Guiding Environment can support and stimulate dementia elderly in daily life. Because: 'Do you sometimes forget an appointment or do you often go to bed late?' The 'house that takes care of you' can support you in this. By installing a 'Guiding Environment' in the house, the house helps you with various signals and pictograms. For example, an arrow can be projected on the floor to point you to the bathroom at night. Or the light comes on slowly in the morning and bird sounds are played, so that you can wake up calmly and pleasantly.

This research project from both TU Eindhoven | chair of Smart Architectural Technologies, the HAN | Architecture in Health research group as the HvA | The Digital Life research group provides technology that fully adapts to the user and thereby creates a safe and comfortable living environment. These new technologies should make life easier for the elderly, fully integrating all technological innovations into the living environment. It is about technology that stimulates and supports the elderly during their day.

The reactions from DrieGasthuizenGroep to the test set-up were mostly positive and very valuable. The current prototype can be adjusted where necessary on the basis of this input in order to be able to place it effectively for a longer period of time in the elderly with early dementia.

In this way everyone wants a house that takes care of you!
