'EyeBeacons goes overseas': presentation at ACM ASSETS 2019 in Pittsburgh, USA

31-10-2019

This year the 21st International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility took place from October 28th to 30th in Pittsburgh, USA.

The ASSETS conference is the premier forum for presenting research on the design, evaluation, use, and education related to computing and accessibility - especially for people with disabilities and older adults.

Joey van der Bie, researcher at the Digital Life Center, presented the Sidewalk navigation syntax at ACM ASSETS. Via this syntax, it is possible to provide comprehensive and concise navigation instructions in a consistent manner. Details about the environment, but also warnings about a pole in the road surface, are treated in this Sidewalk syntax. The syntax is part of the EyeBeacons Wayfinding system, whereby multi-modal messages enable people with a visual impairment to navigate through the public space.
