Marije Kanis, senior researcher at the Digital Life Centre was in Switzerland last June at the invitation of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHDK) to be an external juror in assessing graduation projects of the Bachelor Interaction Design. Previously, the same students also came to Amsterdam for inspiration during a field tour in our capital. They were primarily inspired by our practice-oriented societal approach.
During the BA course, students are taught to find answers to current societal and technical challenges. They design digital products and interactive systems, such as physical installations and social media platforms. In addition, they develop interactive objects, materials and environments, as well as their own research projects.
A few examples of the many graduation projects that Marije Kanis jurried were:
- Remember: haptic installation for structuring the daily routines of people with dementia
- The society of the frozen hour: a time machine for the now
- Data track: a mechanical and tangible perspective on the data industry
- VoteTandem.org: a social platform for 'inclusive' voting
All projects were deeply engaged within the current society and dealed with timely topics (control over algorithms and data, social inclusion, sustainable behaviour …) and excelled in presentation and design professionalism. It was an interesting exchange and a beautiful insight into another University of Applied Sciences.
