Alderman for Education of the Municipality of Diemen is testing the sum with robot Hero

04-04-2022

In times of corona, children at Dutch primary schools have fallen behind in learning due to home education. Digital Life investigates how the use of social robotics as a learning tool can be (further) developed to support teachers and students in group 6 of primary education.

A social robot uses technologies such as speech, facial and emotion recognition. This allows the robot to perform certain non-physical tasks.

CALCULATION ROBOT

This research -called SOROCOVA- is currently focusing on the calculation modules, such as performing plus and minus sums, but also multiplication.

TEST ON THE SUM

During a recent meeting with the steering committee of the project, the relevant alderman for education of the municipality of Diemen -Jeroen Klaasse- was given the opportunity to experience exactly how the social robot Hero works. This demo was facilitated by three students from the Business IT & Management course at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Watch a -Dutch- fragment here of this 'test to the sum'.

In the coming months of April, May and June, children from various primary schools will be working with the robot themselves. We look forward to the results that follow!
