Following the ongoing research projects in healthcare technology taking place at the academic centre ‘Naarderheem’ and residence ‘de Flank’, the ‘de Blarickhof’ foundation and ‘de Lloods’ practitioners in Blaricum have requested the Digital Life research group at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences to establish a new project in Blaricum.
This has become part of a larger study investigating both the applications and the effects of sensor monitoring on independently living elderly. In this study, simple sensors placed in the living quarters are utilised to record the activities of the residents. Information about their daily routine is acquired in this fashion.
In the healthcare sector, performing so-called ‘daily activities’ (preparing meals, caring for personal hygiene, keeping the household, etc.) are regarded as an indication of physical condition. This project attempts to signal changes in these routines through the use of the collected information. By being able to take timely action when necessary, elderly are able to live independently as long as possible.
