'You need a village to grow old'. Under this heading, a two-year research project was carried out on AI art objects in public spaces to encourage encounters between people (with and without dementia) in the neighbourhood. This was developed and evaluated together with students of the Designing User Research and Care Technology minor. In a special course week - developed by Dr Marije Kanis from Digital Life -in collaboration with exercise therapist Berber Nauta and the CMD minor Designing User Research (DUR)- students studied the wellbeing of students using 'probes' and reflective toolkits. This is a design methodology for which Digital Life has built up a lot of experience in previous research projects, such as Co-Well and Co-Care-IT. What were the findings? At the beginning of this year, the SIA Top-Up project 'Foxfit' was completed, a follow-up to the research project 'Simba' where the Foxfit intervention was developed as a prototype in co-creation with the end users. With a closing online conference organized by the KIEN Foundation on Thursday October 1. this year, the 'Guiding Environment' research was actually completed. This SPRONG project took place within the framework of the research program 'People in Motion', in which three faculties of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences worked together: Exercise, Sports & Nutrition; Digital Media & Creative Industry (DMCI); and Health. The BAAT Co-Creation KIT is out now! This is a toolkit that is now being used in a pilot study for investigating needs with regard to (digital) tailored exercise in people aged 65+ at a distance. It contains a booklet with tips and tricks for (digital) movement, a fitness band and a specially designed activity diary with custom activity cards. Research project Simba - Stimulating Children with Asthma to Exercise More - investigated how children with asthma can be stimulated to exercise more. This is very important because about 85,000 Dutch children suffer from asthma and a healthy lifestyle and enough exercise can help them to have fewer asthma complaints. The Foxfit intervention was developed during the research project. This intervention helps healthcare providers to encourage children with asthma to exercise more. read more

The Standing Committee on Health, Welfare and Sport in the Dutch House of Representatives received the ActiZ publication 'Innovation in the nursing home' last month. Het HvA Onderzoek van het jaar is So Hip, sensortechnologie bij de revalidatie van ouderen na een heupfractuur van het onderzoeksteam rond Margriet Pol. Dat is bekend geworden tijdens het HvA Research Awards Event. De award bekroont het beste HvA onderzoek van dit jaar. Het team krijgt 3500 euro om aan onderzoek te besteden. Op 18 april organiseerde het Digital Life Lab van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam het ‘Sense in the City’ seminar in Pakhuis de Zwijger. Onderzoekers, studenten, experts uit het bedrijfsleven en de overheid presenteerden en discussieerden hoe technologie bijdraagt tot het verkrijgen van een gezondere leefstijl. On June 12th, the research group Digital Life of Create-IT organised the Measuring Amsterdam event. During this event, keynote speakers Jochen Riester (HvA), Ger Baron (City of Amsterdam) and Marcel worring (UvA) talked about Crowdsourcing, Amsterdam as a Smart City and data visualization. We also performed measurements and observations on the Wibautstraat (Knowledge mile) during the event. These measurements are derived from the research projects from within Create-IT. The participants were able to contribute to open data by using a web form as an input tool. In total, the participants performed 1050 measurements. The collected data was visualized and can be viewed here. read more
